PORT WORKERS PLAN STRIKE

A large-scale strike by port workers, truckers and customs brokers is planned for 28 July 2009 in Manila. The Bureau of Customs (BOC) stated on 24 July that it is going on strike against the Presidential Anti-Smuggling Group (PASG) because it believes that the group is withholding cargo. The organizers stated that the Confederation of Truckers Association (CTAP), the Professional Customs Brokers Association of the Philippines (PCBAPI), the Allied Concerned Truckers' and Owners Organization, the Bureau of Customs Employees Association and other labor unions will participate in the indefinite strike.
