Local tribe takes over drilling platform
12 Aug 2008
On 11 August 2008 Pluspetrol, an oil exploration and production company, closed part of a natural gas lot when Peruvian tribes invaded it. Armed tribesmen entered the lot in the Cusco province and took control of drilling platforms, a helicopter port, an electricity station and buildings. The tribes acted because of a land dispute. They demanded that the government meet with them over land rights.
