Tropical storm Phet hits coastal areas

07 Jun 2010
On 6 June 2010 Tropical Storm Phet dumped torrential rains on Pakistan’s coastal areas, damaging homes and killing seven people. Some roads in Karachi were under more than 1 ft/ 30 cm of water. The storm also disrupted train services in the city, and the flooding of power plants led to power outages in certain parts of Karachi. Much of Pakistan’s coastal infrastructure is in poor condition, and a number of houses in the Gwadar and Pasni districts collapsed. The storm has killed at least 15 people in Pakistan. Phet has since moved into India’s Gujarat state, where it has caused flooding in the Kutch district.
