Tension with India increases as military go on red alert
24 Dec 2008
Pakistan has placed its military on "red alert" in response to warnings from India that it will not rule out the use of military force if Pakistan does not take more forceful action against Islamist militants. Pakistani fighter aircraft reportedly held exercises along the India-Pakistan border that resulted in delays of at least two Pakistan International Airlines flights at Allama Iqbal International Airport (OPLA/LHE) in Lahore. There have been no further reports of disruptions at Pakistani airports. The military has denied Pakistani media reports that all airports in the country have been placed under "high alert."
