26 Jun 2009
On 26 June 2009 a suicide bomber attacked an army vehicle in the Shaukat Lines area of Muzaffarabad, the capital of Pakistani Kashmir, killing at least two soldiers and wounding at least three others. The bombing was the first such attack to occur in the region in recent months. According to local media, the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) claimed responsibility for the attack. The Pakistani army is expected to launch a wider ground offensive in South Waziristan, a stronghold of TTP leader Baitullah Mehsud, in the coming days.
