Karachi Bombs Kill 22

05 Feb 2010
On 5 February 2010 two bombs exploded in Karachi, killing at least 22 people and injuring 40 others. The first bomb exploded near a bus on Shahrah-e-Faisal Road, which connects Jinnah International Airport (OPKC/KHI) to the city. The majority of the passengers on the bus were Shiite Muslims who were traveling to a religious event. The explosive device was reportedly attached to a motorcycle and detonated as the bus passed by; some reports indicate that a suicide bomber detonated the explosives. Shortly after the attack, a second bomb exploded outside Jinnah Hospital, where many of those injured in the first bombing attack had been taken for medical care. The bomb was reportedly hidden close to an ambulance outside the hospital’s emergency ward; another explosive device was discovered at the hospital and defused by authorities.
