Gunmen attack Lahore police training school

On 30 March 2009 an estimated 25 gunmen armed with grenades and assault rifles stormed the Manawan Police Training School on the outskirts of Lahore. At least 22 people were killed and more than 90 others were wounded in the assault. An unknown number of officers and trainees remained trapped inside with the attackers during the siege. Approximately 700 trainees were within the grounds at the time of the attack. The Pakistani security forces surrounded the area and engaged in a seven-hour gunbattle with the attackers, who hid within the compound. Security forces regained control of the facility after several hours. There were no claims of responsibility in the attack.
