US Officials on high alert

Officials at the U.S. Embassy in Abuja announced on 31 March 2010 that the security alert level for the diplomatic mission has been raised in response to general terrorist threats. Authorities sent an email to U.S. citizens in Nigeria indicating that the alert had been raised because of “continuing worldwide terrorist threats against U.S. citizens." The alleged threats were not specified in the email; officials stated that all U.S. citizens and government facilities in Nigeria, including the U.S. Consulate General location in Lagos and the embassy in Abuja, will remain on the heightened alert status for security purposes.
