Petrol tanker bursts into flames in Lagos rush hour

A petrol tanker burst into flames during the morning rush hour on 24 July 2008, causing major traffic disruptions in Lagos and multiple casualties. At least 12 people were killed and several more were severely burned when the driver of the petrol tanker lost control and hit a median, which caused the tanker to catch on fire. A 30-passenger bus behind the tanker was also engulfed in flames as a result. The accident caused major traffic disruptions on the Orile road, stranding commuters and motorists who were heading into central Lagos. The accident is the second of its kind in the past year.
