Man crashes car into Boeing 737 in Calabar

01 Apr 2010
On 31 March 2010 a man crashed his vehicle into a parked Arik Air Boeing 737 aircraft at Margaret Ekpo International Airport (DNCA/CBQ) in Calabar, which is located in southeastern Nigeria near the Cameroonian border. The man gained access to the facility by ramming his vehicle through two security gates guarded by Nigerian air force personnel. There have been conflicting reports about whether passengers were on board the aircraft at the time of the incident. Some reports indicate that passengers were boarding the Abuja-bound flight, while others claim that the aircraft was empty. Officials stated that there were no injuries. A bomb unit searched the man’s vehicle but did not find any traces of explosive materials. The incident did not disrupt airport operations.
