LAGOS TRANSPORT INFRASTRUCTURE AFFECTED BY HEAVY RAINS

15 Oct 2009
Heavy rains brought activities in the Lagos metropolitan area to a standstill on 14 October 2009. The downpour which lasted for approximately six hours from 0600-1200 local time forced many businesses and offices to close. Flooding affected several major roads in the city, including the Apapa-Oshodi, Lagos-Abeokuta and Lagos-Badagary expressways, Murtala Muhammed International Airport road and Moshood Abiola road, among others, bringing transportation to a halt. Operations at Lagos’ Murtala Muhammed International Airport were also affected, as many employees were unable to make it to work. Reports indicate that many flights were delayed due to poor visibility, and only a few flights operated during the rain.
