Doctors at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital began an indefinite strike
07 Oct 2008
Doctors at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital began an indefinite strike on 7 October 2008. The doctors reported that they will work from 0700-1600 local time, but will begin their strike daily from 1600 local time until their demands are met. The doctors are protesting over apparent insecurity in the facility after four female doctors were recently robbed at gunpoint on the premises.
Meanwhile, on 7 October, healthcare workers in Anambra state resumed their strike, which had been suspended for two months. The workers stated that they resumed the strike after the government did not meet their demands. Negotiations are currently ongoing in both cases in an attempt to resolve the strikes.
