Flights delayed by aircraft veering off runway

17 Mar 2009
At approximately 1035 local time on 17 March 2009, a cargo aircraft veered off a runway at Maastricht Aachen Airport, located approximately 125 mi/200 km south of Amsterdam. The Cargolux Boeing 747-400 landed normally, but veered off course forcing the nose wheel to dive into the ground. The incident caused flights to be canceled at the airport, as officials were unable to expedite the removal of the aircraft. The aircraft, based in Luxembourg, was carrying flowers from Kenya. Officials stated that before resuming flights, the aircraft would have to be unloaded, forcing additional delays and cancellations.
