Yadav wins Nepal’s first-ever presidential election

Dr. Ram Baran Yadav has won Nepal’s first-ever presidential election to become the first Nepali president and the first political leader from the Madhesi ethnic group to hold a high-ranking office. Yadav was the general secretary of the Nepali Congress, the second largest party in the Constituent Assembly. Second round elections concluded on 21 July 2008, earning Yadav the largest number of parliamentary votes, giving him the presidency.
