Protesters shut down Kathmandu
20 Nov 2008
On 20 November 2008 protesters shut down Kathmandu following the murder of two men by alleged Maoist youths. Shops and schools across the city were closed. Protesters blocked major roads, burned tires and smashed the windows of at least eight vehicles and a hotel. At least two protesters were injured, and police officers lobbed tear gas shells to disperse crowds. The Maoist party has denied any involvement in the murders.
