KATHMANDU PUBLIC TRANSPORT STRIKE CAUSES DISRUPTIONS

On 24 July 2009 public transportation workers launched a strike in Nepal's Bagmati Zone, where Kathmandu is located. The workers have demanded compensation for a recent arson attack on a minivan near the Tri-Chandra College campus in downtown Kathmandu. It is not clear how long the strike will last. Private transportation workers, including taxi drivers, are continuing to provide service, but the strike has nevertheless caused transportation disruptions throughout the area.
