Soldiers removed from the streets of Ulaanbaatar

Soldiers have been removed from the streets of Ulaanbaatar on 3 July 2008 as the situation continues to stabilize following the unrest that occurred on 1 July. The General Election Committee announced on 3 July that the Mongolian People's Revolutionary Party (MPRP) was officially the winner of the parliamentary elections. Preliminary reports of an MPRP victory incited the recent violence, and in response to the 3 July announcement, the opposition Democratic Party demanded a recount, stating that the national election had been "stolen."
