Tropical Storm Andres formed off the Pacific coast of Mexico on 21 June 2009. The storm was located 189 mi/295 km south of Zihuatanejo and is moving west-northwest at 3 mph/2.6 kt and has maximum sustained winds of near 50 mph/43 kt with higher gusts. According to meteorologists at Wilkens Weather Technologies, it is possible that the storm could reach hurricane status in the next 24 to 36 hours. Forecasts do not currently indicate that the storm will make landfall, though a tropical storm watch has been issued from Zihuatanejo to Manzanillo on Mexico's Pacific coast. Heavy rainfall is expected in the area even if the storm does not make landfall.
