Tropical Storm Lowell heading for landfall

As of 0900 UTC on 9 September 2008, Tropical Storm Lowell was located approximately 245 mi/395 km southwest of Baja California and 285 mi/460 km south of Cabo San Lazaro. The storm is moving northwest at approximately 8 mph/7 kt and has maximum sustained winds of approximately 50 mph/43 kt. According to meteorologists at Wilkens Weather Technologies, the storm is expected to make landfall on Baja California Sur north of Los Cabos late on 10 September or early on 11 September. The storm is expected to gradually weaken over the next 48 hours.
