Tropical Storm Alex continues to move toward the gulf coasts of the United States and Mexico on 29 June 2010, prompting authorities to issue hurricane warnings from Baffin Bay, Texas, to La Cruz, Mexico. According to meteorologists at Wilkens Weather Technologies, Alex is expected to strengthen into a hurricane in the next 24 hours and will likely make landfall near the U.S.-Mexico border on 1 July. As of 0900 UTC on 29 June, Alex was located 405 mi/650 km east-southeast of La Pesca, Mexico, and had maximum sustained winds of up to 70 mph/60 kt with higher gusts. The storm has already caused flooding and landslides in Central America that led to at least five deaths.
