Taxi, bus & truck drivers stage 24 hour strike

16 Feb 2009
The National Confederation of Transportation Workers began a 24-hour nationwide strike today in an effort to persuade the Mexican government to reduce the price of diesel fuel. It is believed that at least half a million taxi, bus and truck drivers will join the strike, though most private transportation providers are not participating. The union has said that it would not erect roadblocks and not to disrupt traffic near bridges, ports or airports. However, the protests could still disrupt traffic and travellers should anticipate possible delays.
