Monterrey Airport Temporarily Closed After Emergency Landing

12 Feb 2010
On 11 February 2010 a Fokker 100 aircraft operated by Click Mexicana made an emergency landing at Monterrey's General Mariano Escobedo International Airport (MMMY/MTY) after its landing gear failed to deploy. The aircraft was operating Flight 7222 from Mexico City's Benito Juarez International Airport (MMMX/MEX) to Nuevo Laredo's Quetzalcoatl International Airport (MMNL/NLD) with 92 passengers and four crew members on board. Upon reaching the destination and establishing that the landing gear had not deployed, the pilot diverted the flight to Monterrey International Airport, since that facility has a longer runway and is better equipped to deal with emergencies. The aircraft skidded off the runway after landing shortly after 2040 local time (0240 GMT on 12 February). One passenger suffered minor injuries, while the aircraft sustained damage. The airport was closed after the emergency landing, but reopened on the morning of 12 February.
