Marches against kidnapping will cause transport delays
30 Aug 2008
Marches against kidnapping will take place in cities throughout Mexico beginning at 1900 local time on 30 August 2008. The recent kidnapping and murder of Fernando Marti, the 14-year-old son of a wealthy businessman, has ignited a firestorm of controversy about the increasing number of kidnappings in the country. Marches are planned for dozens of cities, including Mexico City, Monterrey, Guadalajara, Morelia, Cancun and Puebla. The protests will likely not result in violence; however, isolated confrontations between demonstrators and police officers are possible. Travellers should anticipate transportation delays.
