Major transport disruptions expected during 24 hr strike

05 Feb 2009
The National Confederation of Transportation Workers union announced that it will stage a 24-hour strike on 16 February unless the government reduces the price of diesel fuel. The strike will include more than 500,000 taxi, bus and truck drivers. The union may launch an indefinite strike on 18 February if the government still does not meet its demands. President Felipe Calderon has already reduced the price of diesel once after transportation workers staged protests in cities throughout Mexico. The strike is expected to create significant transportation disruptions throughout Mexico.
