Gang kills tourist at airport currency exchange window

28 Jan 2009
Mexican authorities warned that criminal gangs are monitoring patrons at currency exchange windows at Mexico City International Airport (MMMX/MEX). Informants provide information to associates, who rob the patrons after they leave the terminal. On 27 January a gang shot and killed a French citizen at the intersection of Miguel Alemán and Rio Frio near the airport when he refused to hand over money that he had just exchanged. A gang killed a Guinean citizen in a similar attack in January 2008. Travellers should avoid using currency exchange windows at the airport and should not resist robbery attempts, as assailants will not hesitate to use lethal force.
