SURVEILLANCE INCREASED AFTER SWINE FLU CASE CONFIRMED

02 Jul 2009
Mauritian health department stated on 30 June 2009 that surveillance measures across the country have been increased after the island confirmed its first case of the A/H1N1 flu. All passengers arriving in Mauritius are now being screened at both the main airport and at the island's seaports. The passengers are reportedly screened in the arrival lounge, and any passenger who exhibits symptoms of the flu are then referred to the health department post for further investigation. A thermal scanner has also been in use since 9 June. Mauritius' first A/H1N1 case was confirmed on 28 June. The infected man is a French tourist who had recently visited Argentina.
