On 7 July 2009 former Prime Minister Sghair Ould M'Barek -- who served from 2003-2005 -- renounced his candidacy for the upcoming 18 July presidential election and has indicated that he will support former junta chief Ould Abdelaziz. Sources indicated that M'Barek may have been forced to quit the race due to financial concerns
