Travellers should be vigilant in & around Antanarivo

Reports indicate that anti-government protesters blew up a military personnel carrier with Molotov cocktails on 26 April 2009. The incident triggered subsequent explosions at an ammunitions store at the military barracks outside the capital, Antananarivo. Soldiers reportedly fired their weapons at random in the ensuing panic. At least one soldier was injured in the attack. This most recent violence comes after at least seven anti-government demonstrators were killed in clashes with security forces during the previous week.
