Tropical storm weakens

Tropical Storm Sinlaku continues to weaken as it heads toward Japan on 16 September 2008. Sinlaku is currently located approximately 236 mi/380 km west-northwest of Naha, Okinawa -- the southernmost part of Japan -- and has moved at 2 mph/2 kt over the past six hours. According to meteorologists at Wilkens Weather Technologies, Sinlaku is expected to continue to weaken over the next five days. Reports indicate that Sinlaku's current maximum sustained winds are 58 mph/50 kt with gusts of 75 mph/65 kt.
