Heavy rainfall causes floods and mudslides

Flash floods and mudslides continue to impact areas of Japan on 16 July 2010 following several days of heavy rain. At least seven people have been killed as a result of the downpours, while six remain unaccounted for. The Gifu province has been the most affected. Local governments have advised approximately 300,000 people to evacuate their homes. Additional rain is forecast for the central and western parts of the country, and officials have warned of the potential for further flooding.
