137 domestic flights cancelled due to pilot strike

An All Nippon Airways (ANA) pilot strike forced the cancellation of 137 domestic flights on 18 March 2009. The strike, which stranded nearly 9,400 people, was initiated by a dispute over training and safety standards. International flights were not affected. Although Japan Airlines (JAL) pilots also indicated that they would strike on 18 March, they did not follow through with their planned actions.
