STAFF AT MONTEGO BAY AIRPORT GO ON STRIKE

Several groups of employees have been on strike at Montego Bay’s Sangster International Airport in recent days to protest against the airport management’s decision to abolish a policy of hiring employees’ relatives during the holiday season and offering scholarships.,They are also pressing that their demands for a reclassification exercise which was initially scheduled for April 2009 be implemented. The strike action has resulted in flight delays and diversions to Kingston’s airport, but the airport remains operational and continues to handle most flight services. Airport management has urged the employees -- represented by the Trade Union Congress (TUC) -- to return to work, but there is a potential for the strike to continue.
