Air traffic controllers on a "go slow"
22 Dec 2008
The Jamaica Air Traffic Controllers Association has implemented a "go-slow" protest action -- reducing the volume of authorised takeoffs and landings -- that has resulted in flight delays at Montego Bay's Sangster International Airport (MKJS/MBJ). The action is in response to a wage dispute with the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA). The CAA has deployed management personnel to control towers to minimise flight disruptions. In recent days, the union had threatened to launch strikes at Sangster International Airport and Kingston's Norman Manley International Airport (MKJP/KIN) if the government did not intervene in the dispute. The union is scheduled to hold discussions with the Labour Ministry over the matter on 22 December.
