Travel disruptions due to strikes

Travel disruptions are likely on 25 June 2010, as the CGIL union is scheduled to stage a nationwide general strike over budget cuts the government is considering. Workers in the public sector will observe the strike all day, while private sector workers will stage four-hour strikes during the morning hours. Nationwide transportation workers will also observe the strike at varying hours. Personnel in the aviation sector -- including pilots, cabin and ground crew -- will strike from 1000 to 1400 local time, while rail sector workers will strike from 1400 to 1800 local time. Marine workers are planning to delay ferry departures by four hours, and some port services may be disrupted as dock workers will strike for four hours each shift. Local public transport disruptions will vary by city, with 4-hour strikes being staged throughout the day. In Rome, most local public transport workers will strike from 0830 to 1230 local time, but some workers on suburban routes may strike for the entire day. In Milan, workers will strike from 0845 to 1500 local time and from 1800-2200, Naples - 0900 to 1300, Turin - 1745 to 2145, Florence - 1630 2030, Venice - 1000 to 1300, Genoa - 1130 to 1530, Bologna - 1930 to 2330, Bari - 2000 to midnight, Cagliari - 0900 to 1300 Palermo - 0900 to 1300.
