Torrential rain cause flooding in many parts of the country

15 Dec 2008
Torrential rain is causing flooding in many areas of Italy including major cities such as Rome and Venice and is likely to get worse during this week. Venice is suffering exceptionally high levels of flooding at the moment due to persistent heavy rain in the Venice area. Although this is a common occurrence in the winter months, the tides are abnormally high at the moment. Flooding is expected to continue all week.
