Metro Workers Strike

Underground workers are staging a strike in Rome on 20 January 2010. The strike has closed lines A and B of the city’s metro and has also disrupted the rail routes from Rome to Giardinetti, Castellana, Viterbo, Civita, Ostia and Lido. The strike is scheduled to last from 0830 to 1700 local time and from 2000 local time to the end of the day. Extended schedules have been put in place for bus and tram services to help minimize disruptions. The strike follows disruptions that occurred on line B the previous day due to a breakdown; the line had only just reopened at 0530 local time on 20 January.
