A large demonstration is planned to take place in central Rome on 25 October 2008. The action -- which is being organized by the opposition Partito Democratico (PD) to protest the government of Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi -- could, by one estimate, draw hundreds of thousands of people. Marchers will leave from Piazzale dei Partigiani and Piazza della Repubblica at 1400 local time and converge at Circo Massimo, where a rally will take place until 1900 local time. Transportation disruptions are expected, with at least one metro stop being closed and more than 50 bus routes being diverted.
