Bad weather shuts several airports

Severe winter weather forced the closure of multiple airports in northern Italy on 7 January 2009. Milan's Linate (LIML/LIN) and Malpensa (LIMC/MXP) airports were closed until early afternoon, and Orio al Serio International Airport (LIME/BGY) in Bergamo and Caselle Airport (LIMF/TRN) in Turin were also closed. Airport workers and flight crews were not able to reach the airports due to the snowfall, which also closed schools in cities throughout northern Italy. The weather conditions, which began to deteriorate on 6 January, are not expected to improve until 9 January.
