Security increased for national elections
09 Feb 2009
Security has been stepped up in Israel in light of the 10 February 2009 national elections. Officials stated that they are "not aware of any specific threats," but that security personnel and police officers will be placed on high alert. In locations that have a large mixed Jewish and Arab population, such as Jerusalem, Ramle, Lod and Jaffa, authorities are on alert for potential violence. Travellers to Israel are likely to encounter heightened security, including at the entrances/exits to major cities, which may increase commuting times.
