MUNICIPAL WORKERS PLAN 2 DAY STRIKE

11 Sep 2009
Municipal workers in several cities in Israel are planning to strike on 13 and 14 September 2009 to protest against a government decision to reduce allocated funds. Services that will be affected include kindergartens and other schools, along with municipal services -- including rubbish service -- and local government offices. Municipal workers in several major cities and urban centres, including Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, Herzliya and Netanya, will not observe the strike, which should minimise disruptions; however, hundreds of rubbish lorry drivers are planning to drive their trucks in convoy during a go-slow protest to Prime Minister Benyamin Netanyahu's office in Jerusalem, which will likely cause significant traffic disruptions. The starting point and route of the protest were not specified.
