Heavy Rains Cause Transport Disruptions
18 Jan 2010
Heavy rains on 18 January 2010 caused disruptions in parts of the Middle East, including in Israel. Flash flooding made the main road leading to the southern resort town of Eilat impassable. Authorities also imposed a temporary closure on southern border crossings with Egypt and Jordan, as flooding was expected to occur in the area. There were also reports of a collapsed bridge near a cargo crossing between Egypt and Israel, and both Eilat Airport (LLET/ETH) and Ovda Airport (LLOV/VDA) in southern Israel cancelled flights.
