POWER STATION FIRE CAUSES POWER OUTAGES IN JAKARTA

A power station in Jakarta, operated by Perushann Listrick Negara, was burned to the ground on 29 September 2009, causing significant power outages in the city. The power outages, which were reported at approximately 1330 local time, affected traffic in several areas in the capital, including east and south Jakarta. The fire was under control within an hour; however, operations within the capital did not return to normal for several hours. Eyewitness reports indicated that an explosion preceded the fire; an investigation is currently underway to determine the cause of the incident.
