POSSIBLE THREAT OF TERRORIST ATTACK ON BALI

The U.S. Embassy in Indonesia stated on 31 December 2009 that it received a warning regarding a possible New Year terrorist attack on the resort island of Bali. However, Bali authorities have denied any knowledge of such an alert. Despite this denial, more than 7,000 security forces, including U.S. trained counter-terrorism personnel, have been deployed throughout the tourist destination at bars and nightclubs, as well as the airport and port areas to maintain order during the New Year festivities. Foreign governments -- including those of the United States, Australia and the United Kingdom -- warned their citizens to maintain a low profile and exercise caution through the new year, especially in and around hotels, residences, entertainment venues and restaurants.
