Grenade explodes in front of Banda Aceh hotel

A grenade exploded in front of a hotel in Peunayong, located in Banda Aceh, at approximately 0600 local time on 16 January 2009. Three vehicles were damaged in the explosion. Police officials stated that the type of grenade has not been identified; eyewitness reports claimed that one of the parked vehicles had the logo of the Aceh Party, many members of which were formally associated with the separatist Free Aceh Movement (GAM).
