Forest Fires shut airport in Riau

The Sultan Syarif Qasim II International Airport in Riau province was forced to close after smog from nearby forest fires affected visibility. Aircraft had to be diverted to other airports in Sumatra. There is no indication as to when the airport may reopen. Due to the hot weather it is likely that the fires will worsen.
