FIRE SMOKE CLOSES RIAU AIRPORT

Pinang Kampai Airport in Riau closed on 5 August 2009 in response to the worsening haze from the fires in Indonesia. Two flights have reportedly been affected by the closure; it is unclear when airport operations will return to normal. The severe haze is also affecting Malaysia and Singapore. According to reports, visibility in Kuala Lumpur is only at 2.5 mi/4 km; normal visibility begins at 6 mi/10 km.
