EARTHQUAKE SOUTH OF JAVA

The Indonesian Meteorological and Geophysics Office reported an earthquake measuring approximately 7.4 on the Richter scale at 14.55 local time (0855 BST) on 2 September 2009. The epicentre was in the Indonesian Sea, south of the island of Java, and 140 kilometres south-west of Tasikmalaya. There were no initial reports of casualties but there has been damage to infrastructure, including buildings. A tsunami warning issued immediately after the earthquake has been lifted. There is however the possibility of aftershocks and you are advised to monitor local media.
