Two separate explosions occurred in western India

Two separate explosions occurred in western India late on 29 September. The first explosion occurred near a mosque in Malegaon, which is located in Maharashtra state, approximately 160 mi/260 km from Mumbai. The explosion killed seven people and injured approximately 80 others. The second explosion occurred in the state of Gujarat, killing two people. Following the blasts, people attempted to riot in the immediate vicinity of the Malegaon incident, causing police officers to fire shots into the air to deter the angry crowds.
