Oil corporation workers strike causes flight delays

08 Jan 2009
An ongoing strike by Indian Oil Corporation workers caused a fuel shortage in India that disrupted flights on 7-8 January 2009. The strike has resulted in a shortage of fuel deliveries, including those to India's airports. Refueling delays caused disruptions at Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport (VABB/BOM) in Mumbai and Netaji Subash Chandra Bose International Airport (VECC/CCU) in Kolkata. Many domestic and international flights departed at least 20 minutes late because of refueling issues. The Indian government is concerned that an escalation in the strike and a failure to resolve the conflict will result not only in more delays but also a fuel shortage in the country.
