Maoist insurgents carried out a wave of attacks across India on 8 July 2010, targeting railway stations, police stations and government buildings. At least seven people were killed and dozens were injured in the states of Orissa, Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand in eastern India. Four people were killed, including two policemen, when rebels attacked the house of a local Indian politician in Chhattisgarh. Indian police officials claim six rebels died in clashes with security forces shortly after the attack. Guerilla fighters launched a number of other attacks in Chhattisgarh, including attacks on Indian paramilitary camps in the state. In Orissa state, rebels set fire to a police station; there were no reports of casualties. In Jharkhand state, a policeman was killed in a firefight with a rebel group.
